Colossians 2:10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power. (NKJV)
A true servant only finds completeness through His master. The servants strength, resources, authority and fulfillment comes by the Master, through the Master and for the Master. Every human longs for completeness; the filling of that hole, that “want”, that missing part of us, that “void” the vast majority of people will never fill – but not for lack of trying (money, fame, sex, drugs, recreation, achievement, religion, etc.).
In the movie, “Jerry Maguire”, Jerry had the right concept, but the wrong person. In a famous line that has become part of movie lore, Tom Cruise playing “Jerry Maguire” tells his girl, “you complete me”. He was saying that what was missing in his life was her, and that she would finally bring him the contentment and happiness he longed for.
Tom, playing Jerry, expressed a feeling common to all mankind. Whether an actor in a movie, or a cat and mouse cartoon, there is no completeness to be found in this world apart from the right person. Correction, the right Person.
There is only one Person who will ever truly complete us, and of course that Person is Jesus. He is at your door now, offering completeness:
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. (NKJV)
Lord, you had me at “hello”.
