2 Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)  Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

We look in a lot of different places to make up for what is missing, to finish what is lacking or fill what is not full.

The real reason we fall short emotionally, spirituality and relationally is the S.I.N. disease (a shortfall of holiness). Only by God’s grace, His spirit and His Word can we perfect our holiness… in other words, “complete me”.  Sin in our lives is directly proportionate to our imperfection and incompleteness as persons.

In our verse we find several things to complete us: promises of God we can always count on; cleansing spiritually by asking God’s forgiveness; and following the Spirit of God who guides us into all things righteous. Mix thoroughly with the “fear of God” and you are on your way.

Fear of God? Don’t hear that talked about much in these ear-tickling days but it is simply an admission of who God is, a respect for His power, and an acknowledgment of our accountability to Him.

“You complete me…”  A human can never really do this for us perfectly, but God can.

Think It Over:  Where are you looking for “completion” in your life?  Achievement, pleasure, money? Have you ever really considered if “completeness” is attainable on your current path? If not, might want to change it to the only path that leads to true perfection.
