I have been teaching for many weeks on Wednesday night about discernment, and now focusing on knowing essentials vs non-essentials. Thought you might find this graphic I just created useful in your own teaching or personal study. Makes for a very practical and relevant Bible Study.
The premise to teach is this: the closer something is to “the cross” – ie. essential to your salvation – then the more unified and firm (and that nasty word: “intolerant”) we must be about that Truth. The farther away from “the cross” (the topic or issue has less and less to do with whether it affects our salvation or living a sanctified Christian life), then the less dogmatic we should be and allow others their difference in opinion and conviction.
