Proverbs 22:22 (NKJV) Do not rob the poor because he is poor, Nor oppress the afflicted at the gate;
Whether an individual, a business, a culture or a government, exploiting the weak, poor and sick is despicable. And yet, the frequency and severity of it is growing.
Why? Respect for life, law and goodness is plummeting. The government enslaves the poor with entitlements in order to enrich and empower politicians. Government-sanctioned exploitation naturally leads to the governed following suit. There is no end to scams, financial traps and get rich quick promises. Lotteries, high-interest credit, casinos, payment plans, no money down… all designed to relieve those who can least afford it of their little bit of resources.
Christians should never be part of any business/industry/plan/scheme/effort that exploits the poor and financially ignorant. As much as possible we should be a help through education, advice and mentoring.
Think It Over: Christian leaders should be teaching true Biblical financial discipline and principles, not foolish and fleshly “health and wealth” nonsense. “Money” is a frequent topic in Scripture but it’s not a message of indulgence. It is a message about giving, God’s providential care, discipline, stewardship and contentment.
